Self-test: How open are you for new experiences?

Enjoy life and celebrate your achievements!


Many guides and experts often tell you to create a wish list with all the things you want to experience. On the other hand, I think: enjoy life and be aware of what you have already achieved. What achievements can you book for yourself?

If you focus on what you still want to achieve, you live in want. Because you have not realized these wishes yet. You make it clear to you every day, what you have not done yet. That can be frustrating. In everyday life, the glorious advertising of the dream vacation or the Facebook post of a friend about a special experience will show you even more clearly: You still have not started to live your dreams.

You will argue, but you also need goals and dreams in life: RIGHT, BUT with the right focus! Focusing only on what has not yet been realized would be too one-sided. At the same time, be aware of what you have already experienced, in which areas you have had success.

Enjoy life, celebrate success and dream 

It made me very thoughtful to read of people who had to confess on the deathbed that they did not realize that in life what they always wished for. We often deny our wishes because they just are not feasible. We do not care what we wish with all our hearts. What cannot be missing in your life?

This important question you should answer. But do not forget the beautiful experiences that you have already enjoyed. Do not just create a wish list with the goals in your life. Think about what wishes you have already met and write them down. I called this list "experience list". So, on the one hand, I can look at my wishes and, if necessary, change them if they are no longer consistent with me and I can juxtapose my experiences with this list.

Enjoy life by taking a close look at both sides.

What are your dreams?


Some time ago I read Bronni Ware's book "The Top Five Regrets of the Dying" and it impressed me deeply.

The 5 most important things that the dying are regretting are not material achievements. It is not the great house by the sea, the classic car or the world tour. It's the interpersonal things that money can not buy.

They are the following:

"I wish I'd had the courage to be true to myself instead of living as others expected me to

I wish I had not worked so much

I wish I had had the courage to express my feelings

I wish I had kept in touch with my friends

I wish I had enjoyed more "

Keep these statements in mind as you begin to deal with your wishes and goals. Not only the special travel destinations or experiences are important. It is above all your relationships with the people who are close to you, and most importantly the relationship with yourself.

The questions 

  • How do you want to live?
  • With which people would you like to surround yourself?
  • Who are you?
  • What do you want to live for?
  • How do you lose track of time?
  • What are your values?
  • In what can you fully and completely rise?
  • What are your passions?
These deserve an intense argument. On my deathbed, I would like to regret. Nobody makes mistakes in his life or make decisions that are unpleasant or retrospective. And mistakes are part of learning in life. But on the whole, I would like to live a life that I can say with a clear conscience, that was a beautiful and fulfilling life for me.

What have you experienced so far?


Think about what you have already experienced or achieved. In this list must, of course, the special trip, a special car or apartment or house purely. But also think about the small successes or events with family and friends.

  • What experiences conjure up a smile in your face today?
  • Which people do you particularly like to remember?
  • For which friendships/encounters are you grateful?
  • In which moments did you feel happy?
  • Where and when did you live your true self and how did that feel?
  • Which moment or which person touched you?
  • When was the last time you were really happy?

Write down everything that comes to your mind and always complete your list when new successes, beautiful experiences and fulfilled wishes are added. So enjoy the life and if you are in a bad mood or sad or something is not going well, you can take this list and build up with it. You will see that when reading through all the beautiful experiences you will also remember the feelings you had in those moments. Your problem will certainly not have dissolved in the air, but you get a little out of the hole. And that gives you the opportunity to find solutions.

Do not forget to consciously celebrate your successes. Start a good friendship, treat yourself to a nice bath, if you have achieved something, reward yourself with a little break or a special trip. Celebrate your achievements, then they will stay in your memory longer because you connect them with a nice experience.
